Job Description


As a Security Officer - Unarmed Shelter Patrols Full-Time in Brooklyn, NY, you will serve and safeguard clients in a range of industries such as Shelter, and more. As an unarmed patrol officer with Allied Universal, you will monitor and patrol assigned shelter locations, helping to deter security-related incidents and promoting a welcoming environment for all residents and visitors. Your presence and regular patrols will support a sense of comfort and order, while your strong communication skills and customer service mindset will contribute to positive interactions throughout the location. What You'll Do:

  • Provide customer service to clients and guests at the shelter location by carrying out security-related procedures, following site-specific policies, and participating in emergency response activities when appropriate.
  • Respond to incidents and critical situations in a calm, problem-solving manner to help maintain order within the shelter environment.
  • Conduct regular and random patrols throughout the shelter and its perimeter to help to deter unauthorized activity and identify potential concerns.
  • Monitor entrances, exits, and common areas to help to deter unwanted behavior and/or incidents within the shelter.
  • Document and report any security-related incidents, observations, or concerns according to Allied Universal protocols.
  • Communicate and coordinate with shelter staff and/or local authorities as needed to support a secure environment.

Minimum Requirements:

  • At least 1 year of security-related experience is required.
  • A state, county, or city issued security license is preferred.
  • Customer service experience is preferred.
  • A guard card or license is preferred.
  • Comfortable using a computer or tablet is preferred.
  • Be at least 18 years of age for unarmed roles; 21+ years of age for armed roles.
  • Possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • As a condition of employment, applicants will be subject to a background investigation in accordance with all federal, state, and local laws.
  • Allied Universal will consider qualified applications with criminal histories in a manner consistent with applicable laws.
  • As a condition of employment, applicants will be subject to a drug screen to the extent permitted by law.
  • Licensing requirements are subject to state and/or local laws and regulations and may be required prior to employment.
  • A valid driver’s license will be required for driving positions only.
