Job Description


As a Security Professional - Access Control Specialist in Portsmouth, VA, you will serve and safeguard clients in a range of industries such as Aero/Defense, and more. As an Access Control Officer with Allied Universal, you will monitor and patrol assigned aero and defense locations, helping to deter security-related incidents and maintaining a secure environment. Your visible presence and routine patrols will support a sense of reassurance for all on-site, while you provide outstanding customer service and clear communication. What You'll Do:

  • Provide customer service to all visitors, employees, and contractors by following access control procedures and site-specific policies at the aerospace and defense location.
  • Monitor entry and exit points to help to deter unauthorized access and maintain accurate records of site ingress and egress.
  • Respond to incidents and critical situations in a calm, problem-solving manner, following established protocols relevant to the location.
  • Conduct regular and random patrols of both interior and exterior areas to help to deter security-related incidents and identify potential concerns.
  • Collaborate with team members and site personnel to address access control issues and support emergency response activities as needed.
  • Maintain detailed logs and reports of activities, observations, and any security-related incidents throughout the shift.
  • Communicate promptly with Allied Universal supervision and site management regarding any unusual activities or access control concerns.
  • Stay informed of and adhere to all site-specific policies, procedures, and regulations as they pertain to access control at this aerospace and defense location.

Minimum Requirements:

  • CPR and/or First Aid certification is preferred.
  • A valid Guard Card or license is preferred.
  • Be at least 18 years of age for unarmed roles; 21+ years of age for armed roles.
  • Possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • As a condition of employment, applicants will be subject to a background investigation in accordance with all federal, state, and local laws.
  • Allied Universal will consider qualified applications with criminal histories in a manner consistent with applicable laws.
  • As a condition of employment, applicants will be subject to a drug screen to the extent permitted by law.
  • Licensing requirements are subject to state and/or local laws and regulations and may be required prior to employment.
  • A valid driver’s license will be required for driving positions only.
