Job Description

Allied Universal® is hiring a Safety Ambassador . The Downtown Ambassador program serves to ensure a memorable and welcoming experience for everyone visiting our vibrant city center. Ambassadors shall promote a positive downtown experience by providing enhanced hospitality and security functions throughout Downtown Orlando (DTO). Ambassadors are a reflection of the City Beautiful, and often provide the first “person-to-person” interaction visitors have within the downtown area. Acting as First Impression Specialists for DTO, and often patrolling on bike, Ambassadors must create positive, friendly, and helpful interactions with all members of the public, which may include families, residents, students, business owners, workers, concert goers, performers, shoppers, and tourists.

 

$21 / hour

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Greet and engage with members of the public, including with visitors, students, workers, residents, and businesses in various settings and weather conditions
  • Assist visitors with wayfinding to popular destinations and venues within the City of Orlando Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) Area
  • Respond to inquiries for general information from the public regarding downtown businesses (including governmental offices), libraries and educational facilities, as well as special events and programs
  • Circulate throughout the Zones in the CRA Area to provide a visible presence and enhance safety, with a goal of preventing crime and discouraging inappropriate behavior through activity
  • Provide additional presence and assistance at or around downtown events, as requested
  • Act as additional community eyes and ears documenting and reporting disturbances, graffiti, vandalism, and other criminal activity that may be observed
  • Report public maintenance issues to the CRA or City, such as downed street signs, broken/malfunctioning streetlights, and blocked sidewalks preventing access to individuals with disabilities
  • Document observed ordinance violations for referral to City Code Enforcement or the Orlando Police Department (“OPD”), as appropriate, depending on the nature of the violation
  • Provide safety escorts upon request from locations in the CRA Area to destinations within the CRA Area. Persons needing a safety escort should be able to request such an in-person guide or escort by an Ambassador via a call or text to the on-duty Supervisor or other on-duty representative of the Contractor at a publicized telephone number
  • Interface with businesses in the CRA Area, providing notification of important community information and events, and listening to and reporting any community related concerns
  • Conduct public surveys and data collection
  • Engage with receptive homeless individuals in order to provide general information regarding available services in the area and the locations of such services; such interactions should be documented, and such information should be made available to the specialized Outreach Ambassadors for follow up and additional outreach
  • Promote a clean downtown by picking up and disposing of prominent trash or litter incidental to their other Ambassador duties, and report incidents of large item trash dumping in public rights of way (such as sofas and appliances) to the City’s Solid Waste Division

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Possess a high school diploma or equivalent, or 5 years of verifiable work experience
  • Licensing requirements are subject to state and/or local laws and regulations and may be required prior to employment
  • A valid driver’s license will be required for driving positions only
  • No experience required
  • Working knowledge of area geography and major downtown destinations, including government offices, community venues, stadiums, arenas as well as popular restaurants, bars, and night clubs
  • Proficient in riding a bicycle
  • Able to employ appropriate de-escalation techniques calmly and sensitively
  • Working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Ability to coordinate and/or direct a variety of complex tasks and assignments simultaneously and successfully
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise good judgment and make sensible decisions
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to build strong relationships and a willingness to develop an understanding of the individual circumstances and needs of each individual
  • Able to gain expert level familiarity, and comply, with the CoC policies and procedures
  • Having flexibility to work in different schedules, including evenings and weekends, as necessary
  • General knowledge and training on how to conduct interactions with people in need, including the homeless
  • Excellent organizational skills

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Prior security or customer service experience (one or more years is ideal)
  • Proficient with Mobile Technologies and Smart Devices
